ASSITEJ Uzbekistan as the national center of the ASSITEJ – International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, was organized in 2018 on the basis of the Uzbekistan State Theater for Young Spectators’. According to the established tradition, the new members of the association welcome guests from all over the continent to a meeting within the framework of which the performances are shown and current issues are discussed in the field of children’s theater. That is why the ASSITEJ Asia Meeting 2019 is held in our country, during which 5 performances of theaters for children and young people of the Tashkent, a workshop on determining the age criteria for children’s performances and city tours will be shown.
Zulfiya Khamraeva, director of the theater and head of ASSITEJ Uzbekistan: – This year, the Uzbekistan State Theater for Young Spectators celebrates its 90th anniversary and we are very pleased that this year the “ASSITEJ Asia Meeting 2019” is held in Uzbekistan, within the walls of our theater. Despite the fact that our theater is still very young members of ASSITEJ, we can already say about the historical significance of this cooperation, about the positive influence on the activities of our theater. We are very glad to welcome you in Uzbekistan and look forward to long-term and fruitful cooperation.
23 specialists from 17 countries, including China, Korea, Japan, India, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Georgia, Israel, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, Sri Lanka and neighboring countries, participate in the meeting. In addition to the current members of ASSITEJ, experts from Mongolia and the Republic of Belorus were invited to apply for membership in the association. Specialists will spend four days in Uzbekistan, watch performances, discuss topical issues, schedule cooperation, and of course, visit the sights of Tashkent. In addition to foreign specialists, local specialists – heads of ten theaters primarily working for children from all over Uzbekistan participate in the meeting.
The ASSITEJ Asia 2019 meeting coincided with the 90th anniversary of the theater, which is widely celebrated this year and the closing of the meeting will be held as part of the anniversary celebration of the theater. At the anniversary evening, the guests will watch a theatrical performance telling about the history of the theater with excerpts from various key performances of the past years. Also at the anniversary party will be representatives of diplomatic corps, international organizations, The Ministry of Culture, The Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan and other members of the “Friends Club” of the Theater.
